16 Chalk it up to the holidays!

Canadian House & Home, Design Editor, Joel Bray, Photo Credit: Angus Fergusson

Canadian House and Home featured this fuss-free take on the traditional Christmas Tree in their December issue. A fun and crafty approach to something we saw back in 2008 by All the Luck in the World which we're thinking inspired the one over at Free People this year (below). What are your tree traditions? Real, not so real?

we go on a family outing to the woods the weekend before Christmas, freeze our little ..... off looking for the perfect tree, cut it down with a camp saw, tie it onto the roof of our car , drive very carefully home where we fill the house with it's beautiful aroma. We put only the clear lights on it to marvel at it's natural beauty for a few days and then the slow process of decorating starts, first the popcorn and cranberry garlands freshly made and hung, and then the rest.

We did a chalkboard tree last year for our handmade ornaments. An iphone photo of it here:

Currently scouring our compost pile for the perfect branches to paint for this year's display.

Thanks for this post about unique Christmas trees. I think the second one is quite fantastic. How creative!

We never get around to getting a tree - either we run out of time, finances, etc etc .. But I love these ideas! I think I'm going to do one of them this year - now I just have to decide which one ;)

Oh, what awesome ideas! Especially for tiny apartments like mine. We have an artificial tree that was handed down from my in-laws, because our strata doesn't allow real trees. We may need to switch to one of these 2-D ideas, though!

I actually thought the phrase "OMG" in my head -- that tree-on-the-wall is a wonder (and might be the perfect solution to a tiny apartment with no room for a REAL tree)! Bueno.

Love it! We ha quite a small apartment and I made a 'no mess' Christmas tree a few years ago out of a few metres of chicken wire and lots of fairy lights. It looks awesome sparkling out our window and always gets lots of comments!

We will be having a huge party before we head off for the holidays this year. I plan to draw a huge christmas tree on the chalkboard wall in our dining room and let everyone 'decorate' it throughout the evening. No mess except some chalk dust!

I've always had a real Christmas tree in the past, but my husband and I recently downsized to a smaller apartment. I've been agonizing over the possibility that we won't have space for a tree. This may be the perfect solution!
