Sunday Reading

It's a nice sunny sunday here as I sip on my morning coffee.  I'm going to make a turkey soon and am looking for a few inspirational (gluten free) recipes first - specifically pie crust - anyone have a good one? I found one but it uses shortening (lard) and for some reason that doesn't sound very good.  E is trying to finish our flooring in the living room (before it gets really cold) and so it's a homebody kind of day before our Canadian Thanksgiving dinner.  What are you up to today?  Here's a few sunday reading links:

Living in an earthship (a link from last year, but worth a look if you haven't seen it)
How to be the most organized person in the world (infographic)
I like this thrifting polka dot blouse DIY makeover
If you like Alexandra Valenti you'll love this beautiful body of work
These origami paper stars are beautiful
Another fine example of a stamp tutorial
Time to think about winter bulbs
And stay tuned for a DIY this week from Abbey Hendrickson and her new book You Are Awesome!
Happy Sunday!

I spent the morning snuggled up on the couch with a cup of tea, embroidery,, and 4 hours of girly tv lined up. Turkey dinner at the in-laws tonight. Happy Thanksgiving!

Lard is actually excellent for pie crust! It makes for a very flaky pastry. I've also used rendered duck fat, which doesn't have as much meat flavor as lard (and lard doesn't have a lot of meat flavor, just a trace).

I use Pamela's "Baking and pancake mix" gluten-free flour blend and swap it out exactly for wheat flour in my standard pie-crust recipe (1 stick butter:1 1/4 cup flour:1/2 teaspoon salt:a bit of sugar). It usually turns out better than when I use normal flour and I would probably use it all the time if it wasn't so danged pricey.
