The Benefits of Gardening (Big or Small)

This post is in partnership with PC® Lawn & Garden.

With the warmer weather approaching we've been looking forward to getting outside this month to start gardening and enjoying our backyard patio. We find gardening not only a fun activity, but also a bit of a therapeutic experience (especially after the long, cold winter/spring we had this year). Did you know gardening also holds psychological benefits both individually and while gardening with others? It’s also scientifically proven to be a stress reliever and an outlet for creativity. It’s not only good for the mind but for the body as a form of exercise as well.

With a wide variety of innovative and exclusive plants and products, PC® Garden Centres have everything you need to start reaping the gardening benefits.

With wellness in mind, alongside our flower containers, this year I wanted to plant a few salad containers and an herb garden for our patio. As we don't have a backyard, I want to be able to just step out onto the patio and clip a few fresh lettuce leaves, veggies or herbs for dinner this summer. I can hardly wait! I was actually surprised to find that you can plant quite a few veggies in smaller containers, which are perfect for patio gardening.

So I headed out to our local lawn and garden centre (PC® Lawn & Garden) which is conveniently set up next to their grocery store and picked up a few things. I was happy to find out all of the products at their garden centres are sourced from 100% Canadian grower.

I loved that they have everything you need to start, from top soil to seeds, along with a wide variety of innovative and exclusive plants and products. Their bright and colourful pots this year are adorable and I'm especially crushing on the PC® Deluxe Hanging Basket Impatiens Sonic Series that feature the same colour blooms as the pots. (Or the begonias below).

Along with some seeds (we thought we'd try our hand at growing flowers and herbs from scratch this year), we also picked up a gorgeous pot of lettuce, some cilantro and soil.  And I'm definitely thinking of going back for those colourful pink, red and yellow pots of impatiens!  Check out more below!

The herbs we use the most during summer months are cilantro, rosemary, basil and dill.  I love fresh cilantro in salads and salsa, rosemary sprinkled over roasted barbecue veggies, basil in pasta and infused strawberry water and fresh dill with our salmon and baby potatoes.  I planted them in a bright greenery pot to brighten up our old wooden deck.

Here's a few more pretty flower containers we spotted. From small shrubs like cedar trees to other happy annuals, I was quite impressed with the selection.  A few pics below.

You don’t need to be an expert to have a beautiful garden; PC® Garden Centres and their staff provide the necessary products and knowledge you need to easily create and care for your garden.
